FUTURISTIC TECHNOLOGY

Our film is set in the future however this is subtly hinted to the viewer instead of saying it outright. One of the ways we are going to show that it is in the future is by using futuristic technologies that we create ourselves. This will also further emphasise the dystopian theme. Some media texts that have done this and inspired us are:

Black Mirror 

In every episode of Black Mirror a different technology is shown. All of which are completely made up by the creators and do not exist in the real world. An example of a new technology used within the show is a type of recording device being in the characters eyes so they can rewatch memories.


Never Let Me Go
This film is a drama that is set in a dystopian reality. Although it is not considered a sci-fi film. The technology in this film is all about gene editing however the part that most inspired us is a scene where all the kids scan a device on their wrist as they go into assembly. We think this is something we can use within our own film to establish the dystopian nature.

Her
This film is a drama/romance that is set in a dystopian future. The main feature of the film that shows this is the operating system that the main character is fascinated by. This technology is based on real life tech but parts of it have been made up by the creators of the film. There are other subtle hints in the film that show it is a dystopian future. For example no cars are shown at any point, everyone either walks or uses public transport.
